Well, Actually I’m Taking Some Classes…

College classes, that is, which means I’m reading textbooks, which is why I don’t have any GOOD books to read…

I’m trying hard not to be one of those “nontraditional” students I found so annoying when I was in my twenties, and to be a student with a purpose instead: I want the hours that I work to have meaning.

Here is what I’ve learned (so far) in my second appearance in college:

  1. I am really scared of making a big change (but I will do it quietly and with persistence).
  2. Going to school on the same campus as my kids’ friends is really, really awkward.
  3. Anything I am going to do to change my life at this point is going to take time and effort.
  4. Gotta be Zen.  Looking at the BIG picture—the four years it will take to finish this degree—is overwhelming.  I have to take this one class at a time, one task at a time.
  5. The mantra of earning my degree in health and wellness is “Working my ass off so you won’t have to.”

Maybe I’ll learn something from my classes soon.  It looks like I’ve learned mostly about me.
